Burn book;
Therefore, i use these 'Easter Eggs' on my digital platform to entice the target audience and provide them with exciting additional snippets of content.
Menu Bar;
When the audience clicks on the lipstick print on the menu bar, which is actually a button, the light box shown above comes up on the screen. This 'Easter Egg' provides the audience with a discount for a new skin care range for providing their email, so they can get extra content straight to their inbox. This light box uses the same original typography, strengthening the brand identity, and is also a reference to the font used on the marketing for the Mean Girls films and musical. Similarly, the quote 'Your face smells like peppermint' is an intertextual reference to the iconic quote from the Mean Girls movie, which the target audience would recognise.
Mean Girls Content Slide Box;
When the audience click on the lipstick print shown above, this light box appears across the bottom of the audience's screen. The bright pink and white colour scheme align with the brand's overall house style, creating a strong sense of brand identity across the various media platforms. The quotes "On Wednesday's we wear pink" and "the limit does not exist" are also intertextual references to the film and musical as they are iconic quotes from these media products, which the target audience would recognise. Similarly, the use of the slang term 'ofc' for of course reflects the primary target audience age demographic of 16-25 year olds, who would understand this slang and use it in their daily lives - reflects how the brand is relateable to the target audience and creating a relationship with the consumers of their products.
Adverts;
By clicking on the lipstick print button on the advert, the audience will have the above light box appear. The white and pink colour scheme again is used to establish that clear sense of brand identity whilst also acting as an intertextual reference to Mean Girls because of the colour scheme and aesthetic of the films and musical. Close up image - a sense of consistency is created through the use of the same model - high sense of verisimilitude - mise-en-scene - reflects that of a school setting, a predominant setting featured in Mean Girls. "Fetch" is a slang word that was invented in the first Mean Girls film, therefore is an iconic intertextual reference that the target audience would recognise. This 'Easter Egg' provides the audience with an extended discount on products chosen by the models, creating a closer relationship between the celebrities represented and the target audience.
By using these 'Easter Eggs', I am able to entice my target audience and offer more exclusive, additional content to those within the primary target audience, who may gain a sense of fulfilment and feel included with the brand if they know about these hidden sections.
