Nea magazine pitch from VD 5041
As a part of my development process for my NEA, I prepared a three minute pitch to an audience in and outside of my target audience demographic of mass market fun-loving 16-25 year olds. I then received this feedback;
- BRIEF - How well does it fit the brief? Is it excellent? Digital convergence? Language techniques?
- Fits well within audience demographic
- Exciting idea
- Addressed the brief well
- Theatre as entertainment - fits the brief well
- Very well researched and presented
- Good idea - ensure that it isn't too niche and targets a mass market
- Fits the brief - I also like the idea of using Dream Girls
- REPRESENTATION - How will subjects be represented? Is this clear? Is it sophisticated, well selected?
- Good intertextual links
- It may be hard/confusing to create a clear sense of theatre iconography
- Niche idea - good
- You have scope for various representations within those shows
- Good use of media specific language
- Good ideas and incorporation of intertextuality
- Clear front cover ideas, thought out locations and mise-en-scene
- TARGET AUDIENCE - How will it appeal to the target audience? Sense of branding? Sustained, insightful?
- Effectively written
- Think about the wants and needs of the target audience
- Audience research is good
- Good choice of shows as they suit the audience demographic
- Somewhat niche but good to find a gap in the market
- Thought out audience appeal
- PRESENTATION - How effective is the presentation? Clarity, concise?
- Clear and within the time frame
- Clear, precise slides, well-spoken and straight to the point
- Precise, engaging and clear
- Nice, clear, precise and simple
- Effective
- Try to engage further with more eye contact
- Very informative but could speak slower
What I found useful about the experience?
From this experience, I have firstly learnt how to clearly structure a pitch to make it clear and to the point but still effective and informative. I also discovered that my target audience think that my idea fits in well with my brief and they like the ideas of using the two broadway shows for intertextuality. This feedback also reminded me that, during production, I need to remember not to make my magazine niche and to think about the representations within my magazine.
